About this course

This course covers the basics of IEEE 802.15.4 protocol and helps in getting started with MiWi™ protocol by building a Mesh network using Microchip solutions.

The objective of this class is to enable you to quickly get started with our MiWi™ wireless solutions to help in your wireless application development such that it is both cost and resource effective and help you choose the right product based on our MiWi™ product portfolio.

The course starts with introduction to 802.15.4 protocol and an overview of its features making the network reliable. Later we move onto MiWi™ protocol and its multiple supported network topologies. After getting introduced to MiWi™ protocol, we dive a bit deeper to investigate its additional special features. You will then get to know the categorizations of the APIs used in the MiWi™ stack available in ASF3 as part of Microchip studio.

Finally, we have step-by-step instructions to set-up a MiWi™ Mesh network Communicating to PAN Coordinator using Microchip development kits and monitor the network using a GUI. This lecture and instructor-led hands-on lab class focuses on configuring the multiple nodes in the network to view the same using the GUI.

In this class we have used SAMR30 Xplained PRO evaluation kits, but the material also applies to the core and peripheral setup on most of the other products supporting MiWi™ like SAMR30 Module Xplained PRO and SAMR21 Xplained PRO.

You will use Microchip Studio to program the hardware on the SAMR30 Xplained PRO board. Attendees registering for this class should have some experience using the C programming language to understand the code-walkthrough for MiWi™ applications.
