About this course

In this course we will explore Ethernet switches and how they can be designed into embedded applications. This class will start by reviewing the OSI network reference model and then look at the types of applications which can make use of embedded Ethernet switches. Next, we'll discuss the differences between managed and unmanaged switches. We then explore the key features and interfaces that distinguish one switch from another. Note that this course is focused on smaller embedded switches rather than on high port count carrier class switches.
